New Same-Sex Wedding Magazine-Equally Wed

The premier issue of a new magazine about same-sex weddings, Equally Wed Magazine, is out now. I will have to see how I can get my little hands on one soon. I hope they will have some articles and photo spreads that will help answer the question of what to wear to your wedding. If you are familiar with this magazine, let us know what you think about it.

Rosie O'Donnell and Kelli Carpenter

Ok, so they have since split up and their marriage was deemed invalid by the State of California. But for a short time in 2004, Rosie O'Donnell and Kelli Carpenter were legally married. See that marriage license there? It was real.

I was in school near City Hall in San Francisco at that time. It was so exciting to be there every day and see all the satellite news trucks covering the event, all the couples lined up in the rain waiting for their chance to be legally recognized, and even the silly protesters. Hope was in the air! We didn't know how long it would last, but it was thrilling to witness such an important step forward in the fight for marriage equality. The mood was very different in 2009 across the street at the Supreme Court building when they affirmed the right of our fellow citizens to write discrimination into the California constitution.

Here are Darlene and Candy becoming one of the first same-sex couples to be married in the District of Columbia. I think they look great and very happy! I love the pointy gold shoes.

Ok, so these aren't real people, and not many lesbians get married with quite this much drama. But it is interesting to see what soap opera costume designers imagine two lesbians might wear to get married. They both look lovely, of course.
